The Dramatic of Kecak Dance in Bali

The Kecak dance is one of the most famous of Balinese dances. It is unusual because it has no musical accompaniment like many other Indonesian dances do, the rhythm of the dance is produced by the chanting ‘monkey’ chorus. Instead, a troupe of over 150 bare-chested men serve as the chorus, making a wondrous cacophony of synchronized “chak-achak-achak” clicking sounds while swaying their bodies and waving their hands .From that chanting noise of “Cak-cak-cak”, then it gave the dance its name Kecak.
What makes the Kecak such a fascinating dance to watch are the fifty or so men in the checkered pants. They are both the choir and the props, providing the music for the story in a series of constant vocal chants that change with the mood of the actors. They don’t sit still, either, they wave their arms to simulate fire, and reposition themselves around the stage to represent wind and fire, prison cells, and unseen hand of protection from the gods. Bringing Bali to Buckingham Palace

Indonesians are “wonderful people, wonderful people,” Britain’s Prince Charles told Mary Northmore.
These words of the king-in-waiting made up part of the chat Prince Charles had recently with the longtime Indonesian resident and citizen who was recently at Buckingham Palace to receive her Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE). Her award was announced during Queen Elizabeth’s New Year’s honors on Dec. 31 last year and presented on June 22, 2011.
Northmore’s MBE was for her work helping sufferers of cranio/facial disorders receive treatment across the east of Indonesia through the Smile Foundation of Bali, or Yayasan Senyum Bali as it is known in Indonesia. Read the rest of this entry »

Bali Top Holiday Spot in Asia: Poll

The readers of an online travel magazine have named Bali as the top holiday destination in Asia for 2011.
The poll, conducted by Smart Travel Asia, also picked out several Bali resorts as the top places for a relaxing break.
Bali took the top spot from Kerala, India, which was bumped down to No. 4. Phuket, Thailand, and Hong Kong were the runners-up, respectively.

Bali ready for UNESCO inspection

The Bali government says it is ready to receive a scheduled visit from UNESCO, whose team of experts will inspect and review four sites nominated by the Indonesian government to be declared as World Heritage Sites, a senior offi cial stated.

French culture observer Jean Couteau predicts that in the next 10 years, foreign tourists to Bali will be dominated by citizens from China and India with the countries new titans in the global economy and politics.
